MEMORY VERSE:

For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”                      Jeremiah 29:11

MISSIONS LESSON:

The widow at Zarephath; 1 Kings 17:8-16

The Lord told Elijah to go live in the city of Zarephath, near the city of Sidon. God told Elijah there would be a widow there that would feed him. When Elijah went to Zarephath he saw an old woman gathering sticks; he asked her to get him some water. When the woman turned to get the water, Elijah also asked for bread. The woman, who was a widow with a son; replied, ‘In the name of the living Lord your God, I swear that I don’t have any bread. All I have is a handful of flour and a little olive oil. I’m on my way home now with these few sticks to cook what I have for my son and me. After that, we will starve to death.’ Elijah said, ‘everything will be fine. Do what you said. Go home and fix something for you and your son. But first, please make a small piece of bread and bring it to me. The Lord God of Israel has promised that your jar of flour won’t run out, and your bottle of oil won’t dry up before he ends rain for the crop.’ Then the widow went home and did what Elijah told her. The Lord kept his promise, the widow, and her family had enough food for a long time. She never ran out of flour or oil.  God says, ‘For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and future.’ This is exactly what God did; he gave a little widow hope by supplying her with flour and oil she then had a future.

MISSIONS STORY

DANIEL AND GABRIELA IN PERU

Daniel grew up in Ica Peru with his parents and baby sister. After school, Daniel liked to race home and play with his pet Alpaca. Daniel’s parents had three Alpacas, and they would shave the Alpacas and sell the wool to buy food for the family. Daniel had watched Bennie being born and had fed him every day.

One day Daniel’s father gave him money for help taking care of the animals. Daniel fed Bennie and raced to the market to get a Chifles which is a Peruvian treat. On his way, he saw his friend Gabriela; Gabriela and her mother were headed to the market also. Daniel liked Gabriela and her mother; they were always happy. Gabriela had lost her father last year in an accident. Daniel asked Gabriela why she was always happy even though her father had died. Gabriela said, when I get sad I always remember a verse my father would tell me. ‘For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and future.’ My father used to tell me that everything happens for a reason, and we are not to question God, for he has great plans for all of us. When they reached the market, Daniel invited Gabriela and her mother to share some Chifles with him. Daniel learned a great lesson that day. No matter what happens in our life, we know when we follow God, He will never leave us and will always take care of us.

Prayer time:

It is important to teach prayer, most children and some adults will tell you they aren’t sure what or how to pray. Let children know; prayer is important because it’s how we talk to God. We don’t have to be proper or elegant. We simply need, to be honest, and sincere. Let children know prayer is as easy as talking face to face with someone.
